How to clean a fish tank washed with vinegar?

i had used this tank for my hampster (who is dead as of 3yrs) and want to movie my goldfish to a bigger tank this tank is a 20 gallon and so, how do i clean it

thanks to all who answer!! %26lt;3 %26lt;3How to clean a fish tank washed with vinegar?
It can be hazardous working with bleach (which can burn your skin) so vinegar and water is actually a safer alternative than using bleach and water, which is what pet stores use. This is probably easier to do in your bathtub. Clean out any hamster debris or wood shavings with soap and water. Empty the water. Mix about two tablespoons vinegar to a quart (32 oz.) of water and scrub the sides and bottom well with this. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then rinse it out thoroughly. You should at this point let the tank air dry, but you can also fill it with water for your fish if you think you've got most of the vinegar out. It's most important for you to get the soap out because detergent is what harms fish the most. When filling the water for your fish make sure you add the water drops that remove the chlorine from the tap water you fill the tank with, even if you use a pump with charcoal.

%26gt; A goldfish should grow noticeably larger if given the space of a 20 gallon tank. How to clean a fish tank washed with vinegar?
washed with vinegar D: weird... well fish tanks are easy to clean. Get a hose and blast all the dust and scum off first. As long as the glass looks clean to you, you don't have to scrub it over. Ok now fill the whole tank with water and add about a teaspoon of bleach per 10 gallons so for yours 2 teaspoons. The bleach will kill off any old bacteria and mold that's too small to see. You can try the vinegar thing, but I hear that it does something to the sealing silicone... so I wouldn't try. Just make sure not to use any soaps and you should be fine. Oh forgot! You have to be careful with the bleach, I recommend filling it up with water after dumping the bleach and water out and letting it dry. Add 2 teaspoons of water conditioner and let it sit.
First of all, look at the condition of the silicone glue that holds the glass panes together. If it scratched up, you'll need to buy some silicone aquarium sealant, or it may leak or develop a leak later. Hamsters tend to scratch and nibble on aquarium sealant.

If he had a wheel and/or toys, he might not have done any damage. Fill it up outside to make sure it doesn't leak.

Clean it simply by filling it up, scrubbing the sides with a cloth, and letting it sit overnight. As long as you didn't use soap or harsh cleaning chemicals, this is all that is needed.
you can use viniger to clean it, or non chlorine bleach, or non iodized salt, in either case rinse it out extremely thouroghly and bee careful never to get any soap in it , if you already did, rinse it out even more and with NON iodized salt, ';iodine kills fish';, if it needs scrubbing get a brand new bad, not one from the floor or sink, And some hot water

When to put vinegar in the wash?

I have read that you put vinegar in the Rinse water of your colored clothes. I remember my mom doing this, but do you have to add in only the rinse or can I put it in with my detergent? When to put vinegar in the wash?
You can put it in during the rinse. It will NOT make your cloths smell of vinegar. It softens and removes lint from dark cloths. you can also use vinegar to remove soap scum from your shower and sinks just put some in a spray bottle and let it soak for 10 to 15 min. It will also deter bugs from bitting you, just put some undiluted vinegar on a cotton ball and apply to skin. When to put vinegar in the wash?
I use it as the rinse agent for all my washed stuff

when you put the downey in use vinegar instead
That's interesting. My guess is that you only put it in the rinse water because it's function is prob. to rid clothes of any soap residue. I wouldn't want to do this because for one thing, I think the detergents we have now are better than in our mother's day and they prob. rinse out better and secondly, I like the smell of Tide detergent and Downy fabric softener. I wouldn't want the clothes to smell of vinegar.
you will need to put it in the rinse cycle vinegar is a great way to soften clothes instaed of using fabric softener that tends tp lva build up on clothes...highly reccomend vinegar i use it with every load i do...the old fashion way of doing things is the best!!! better results our parents new what they were doing. and its less expensive for the same results.

  • If you added washing soda crystals to vinegar, what would you see happening?

Soda crystals react with acid to give off carbon dioxide, this is the only clue I know.If you added washing soda crystals to vinegar, what would you see happening?
Sodium Carbonate plus acetic acid = fizzing as carbon diozide is released and leaves sodium acetate behind and water.

Not explosive in the true definition, but in a sealed container the production of the gas will pressurise and then blow a hole in the container if the pressure gets too great.

Washing soda aka Soda Crystals are not the same as baking Soda...which is bicarbonate of soda, plus other raising agents. If you added washing soda crystals to vinegar, what would you see happening?
I have not heard of 'washing soda crystals- but if it has baking soda in it, if you mix the two, you will have an 'explosion', if the mixture is put in a sealed container. If this is an assignment for school, why not do the homework instead of spending the time trying to get the answer.
you would probably see fizzing and bubbling

Using a solution of 16 oz half being vinegar and then water will this harm or kill plants or flowers if it is spilled onto them?

Thxs Barrie TI'm washing outside windows , will vinegar harm bedding plants and flowers?
vinegar is a popular organic weed killer.....I'm washing outside windows , will vinegar harm bedding plants and flowers?
YES!!! I made the mistake of doing this and all the plants under and around my windows have severe damage. A lot of them died because they absorbed the vinegar through the root system. I wouldn't do it.

Help! I used OIL OF OLAY BODY WASH in Hair and cannot get it out after vinegar rinses and 12 sham?

You may or may not like this answer, but it WILL work...Wash your hair with Dawn dish detergent. Only use a little it makes a lot of soap. It will cut the creme oil in the Oil of Olay body wash.Help! I used OIL OF OLAY BODY WASH in Hair and cannot get it out after vinegar rinses and 12 sham?
I think a trip to your beauty shop might be in order. I can't imagine why 12 shampoos and vinegar rinses haven't gotten rid of it. Maybe try JUST the shampooing. The rinses are probably counterproductive.Help! I used OIL OF OLAY BODY WASH in Hair and cannot get it out after vinegar rinses and 12 sham?
LMAO :D ... I can't believe I'm not the only one who's done that! ... I think the one I used was actually Dove Body Wash, which was really ritch in moisture/conditioner.. but it was so hard to get out! I can see where you are coming from, luckily I didn't try any crazy things like vinegar rinses.. I shampooed like 4 times and didn't use conditioner, and my hair was still oily and nasty. The best thing to do is to run (or have someone go) to Wal Mart/ Walgreens/ CVS/ any store where they sell Neutrogena products. Buy the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo....

    http://www.drugstore.com/qxp169582_33318鈥?/a>

When I used it, it instantly fixed my hair! .. All I had to do was use conditioner (although I was worried it would get my hair super oily again). That stuff is the best shampoo ever to get out hair products, etc! Afterwards you use it once a week, and you can keep using your other regular shampoo. I used to switch shampoos constantly cuz afterwhile they wouldn't work the same, but using this Anti-Residue shampoo, I can keep using the same shampoo, cuz it really cleans out all the buildup from the root the the tip, and it leaves your hair super clean.

I highly recommend it to get that body wash out!

    Good luck! :)
Prell shampoo is the best for stripping out buildup on hair.

How can I get the vinegar smell out of my washing machine?

I put small bottle of white distilled vinegar (approx. 2 cups worth) in my washing machine and let it run through the cycle, because the machine was starting to smell like old water. Any suggestions to get the vinegar out of the machine's system? How can I get the vinegar smell out of my washing machine?

What's better to use when washing bed sheets - white vinegar or fabric softener?

I know you're supposed to use white vinegar in the washer for towels to keep them absorbent and soft...but should the same go for bed sheets?

Or should I just use regular liquid fabric softener for them?

THANKS! :)What's better to use when washing bed sheets - white vinegar or fabric softener?
The vinegar goes in with the soap during the washing cycle. This ensures all hold soap and oil buildup is washed away. Then fabric softener goes in the rinse. Or you use a dryer sheet but not bothWhat's better to use when washing bed sheets - white vinegar or fabric softener?
White vinegar. Fabric softener has too many additives and fragrances for my tastes. Would you really want all that up against your skin every night? Personally, it makes me itchy.

    Just my opinion :)
Personally I love the smell of fabric conditioner so I use tons! I would never use white vinegar. To make towels more absorbent I just wash them in washing powder and leave out the fabric conditioner.
Bed sheets require bleach to kill off bacteria, omg just vinegar hmmmmm wouldnt want to sleep in your bed lol

  • How do I add vinegar to rinse cycle in washing machine?

Okay, I feel dumb, but I'm not sure about this. Do I put the vinegar in the bleach compartment (so the washer will add it during the rinse?) or do I have to stop the machine at the rinse cycle and add it manually?

Thanks, I appreciate the help. How do I add vinegar to rinse cycle in washing machine?
Add it manually. The bleach dispenser will put it in the wash cycle.

Try this site, Doesn't tell you when to add the vinegar but gives a lot of uses for vinegar.

http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/homemak鈥?/a>How do I add vinegar to rinse cycle in washing machine?
Question for you. Are you using Vinegar to just clean the machine or for an article of clothing?

If to wash out unit, then add a quart to a full hot load and run though cycle(no clothes)

If for rinsing clothing with then follow the directions for adding fabric softener in your machine.(clothes rinsed w/ vinegar will come out smelling like a salad) Ha!
YUP THE FABRIC SOFTENER COMPARTMENT NORMALT THE ONE ON THE RIGHT
Add it to your wash cycle with detergent. Works with the soap.
    Don't feel dumb.

The ';bleach compartment'; usually adds during the WASHING, not the rinsing.

Do you have a compartment for fabric softener? That gets added during the rinse. Sometimes it's on the agitator.

Otherwise, yes, you have to open at the rinse and add it.

Some years ago I had a Downy fabric softener ';ball'; and used that for vinegar rinsing.

Is it safe to mix products containing non-chlorine bleach with vinegar when washing nappies in the machine?

There is no effect of adding vinegar with the washing powder, since washing powder contains sodium carbonate which will neutralise the vinegar (acetic or ethanoic acid) with evolution of carbon dioxide. But I think you probably mean, treat the nappies first with vinegar, and then wash most of the vinegar out before washing in detergent. This should be okay if the vinegar is doing something useful! Is it safe to mix products containing non-chlorine bleach with vinegar when washing nappies in the machine?
If it is a non-chlorine bleach then it is more than likely that it will contain a 'percarbonate' which gradually liberates oxygen under ordinary conditions. If you acidify it you will form hydrogen peroxide in solution which may decompose spontaneously into oxygen ... which is not too much of an issue.

Hydrogen peroxide at high concentrations can be an 'irritant', but at the concentrations likely to be encountered here should not be a problem ... but wash any splashing off under the tap.

And, of course, rinse the nappies thoroughly.

Check the labelling to see of 'percarbonate' is mentioned. Is it safe to mix products containing non-chlorine bleach with vinegar when washing nappies in the machine?
It depends upon what you mix with what. It does not mean that ';NON-CHLORINE'; means you have a license to mix whatever.

However, the pH of both the liquids is important. To be on a safer side , please mix the liquids in a small quantity in a separate container and see what happens-- look for any bubbling, heat or foaming. Make a good observance and then make your judgment accordingly.

But my basic question is why ?????

Each product has a big ';R %26amp; D'; behind it.

There is a help line number and it will be advisable to call for more info.

Sometimes if you mix some products it may produce some poisonous gases or by-products whuch are not desireable.

    Anyway, BE SAFE THAN SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?br>

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad smell from wash basin. u trap intact cleaned water stopper. poured vinegar. still has smell.?

Did you clean out the p-trap? Sometimes hair and gunk get stuck and smell when they degrade.Bad smell from wash basin. u trap intact cleaned water stopper. poured vinegar. still has smell.?
Try dumping a 1/2 cup to a cup of baking soda down your sink followed by vinegar, it will start bubbling and cleaning grease and smells from your sink.Bad smell from wash basin. u trap intact cleaned water stopper. poured vinegar. still has smell.?
Put in the stopper and pour one cup bleach in the sink. Slowly (to avoid splashing) fill the sink with water and let it go out the overflow hole. This is often a place that bacteria build up. This will also clean the drain and trap since thats where the water goes from the overflow.
If you are talking about the bathroom sink, check to see if the toilet flap is working. Since they both drain from the same pipe, if the flap is stuck (to open), that will let the odor come back up to the bathroom.
.Caustic Soda, this will clear the pipe in the wash basin and get rid of the smell

Does washing ceramic floors with vinegar and water damage the grout?

I hear different opinions on this issue but not sure which is fact.Does washing ceramic floors with vinegar and water damage the grout?
Vinegar is a very mild acidic, It will clean tile wonderful, it needs to be diluted in a bucket of water, do not use at full strength unless you plan to rinse your floor very well. Contrary to what most people think it will not harm tile at all, if left full strength can harm grout just a bit but this would happen over a long period of time. Vinegar and water bring dirt up very easy and help kill bacteria and also great with killing odors. It is the best thing to use on tile........especially if you have hard water, chemical cleaners with leave a film on tile that feels almost sticky at times. If still in doubt and want to use vinegar just rinse afterward then you'll have no worriesDoes washing ceramic floors with vinegar and water damage the grout?
Vinegar is acidic Acid. So washing with an acid will certainly be active on the grout surfaces and if the tile isnt porcelean, it will also act on the tile.

Furthermore, acids such as acidic or even muriatic acid are inactive against organics. So its not going to do a single thing against grease dirt and the like.

Vinegar is fine for windows because the acidic quality in it removes the scum left by rainwater or the fog scum left on the inside, but for tile floor, a professionally made cleaner available in the grocery store is best.

The professional cleaner will not only remove grease and scum it will give your floor a glossy look and leave a condition on the surface that will retart stains and sticking of debris.

Cleaners in general, are very specific products. Home remedies are just that, usually when looked at from the scientific point of view simply do not do the job at all.
I use it all the time (and have for years) to clean tiled floors. I have never had a problem until I moved into my new house. The grouting hadn't been sealed. Whether I was using vinegar water or other cleaners, it would have ruined the grout. So in the end, I had to regrout some areas and sealed it (as someone above me suggested). I haven't had any more problems with the grouting! I usually dilute my vinegar when washing the floors (50:50 solution)

    Cheers!
It wont damage them but wont do much either
Grout is not damaged from vinegar, water nor floor cleansers. However, cleaning products will deteriate the grout sealer %26amp; the moisture to get into the grout. After the sealer has lost its integrity, the more scrubbing can loosen %26amp; remove some of the grout.

Solution: Make sure the grout is clean and allow 2 full days of drying. Put on a grout sealer (keep it off the ceramic tiles). If use cleaning products and/or vinegar, reseal the grout once a year. Now, no problem.

What kind of vinegar to use when washing clothes to remove odor?

there's a half dozen types of vinegar; which do I use in the laundry? Are there any fabrics or colors I should be careful with when washing with vinegar? (gonna try it to get cig smell out of clothes)

Oh, and should I wait to pour vinegar into water (like when using fab softener) or OK to pour directly onto clothes before washer fills up with water? What about simply adding some vinegar to my bottle of liquid detergent? What kind of vinegar to use when washing clothes to remove odor?
White vinegar. Just pour a cup into the washer. What kind of vinegar to use when washing clothes to remove odor?
white vinegar. . . poor vinegar in washer with soap before you put the clothes in. No, don't add directly to liquid detergent. I don't know what the chemical reaction would be. Good Luck!
I would just add a cup of plain white vinegar to the wash cycle. I wouldn't try mixing it directly with your detergent. It probably won't hurt to pour it directly on the clothes but best not to find out. If the clothes will be dried in a machine, use one or two scented fabric softener sheets. To remove the odor without washing, put some hot water with vinegar in the bathtub and hang the clothes above so the steam will rise up on them. Keep the door closed so the steam won't escape.
Soak clothes in white vinegar/ water solution first, then wash. The clothes will smell for a while, but airing them out or laying in the sun will make the smell go away faster.
They are right use white vinegar and water solution. pour about 1/8 cup in a cup of water then add that to the soak water. then add the item, use at least enough water to cover the item with an inch to spare. You do not need a lot. give it about 20 minutes and check it then it it needs a little longer you can give it another 10-20 minutes. rinse then wash as normal.

This is a pre soak solution. soak before washing .

cold water. you could also put a cup of vinegar in the corner of a closet and close the door it will remove all the smells from the clothes but it will be an over night job.

If you are just washing something you could wash it and add baking soda instead of vinegar.

Some detergents come with baking soda.

Usually if anyone adds vinegar to laundry it is only to soak before washing . 1/2 cup to a load is good make sure the water and detergent go in and then add the clothes. use a full load or large load setting so that you will have enough water to clean properly. (unless it is just one item like a shirt) then you need a medium setting.

Apple cider vinegar or facial wash?? as treatments for acne.?

which do you think is more effective as a treatment for acne.Apple cider vinegar or facial wash?? as treatments for acne.?
I wouldn鈥檛 use either ..As of a year ago i had near perfect skin, I had a few pimples that came up on my forehead and I started using all different acne washes including ACV and I ended up throwing the skins natural skin balance off and made the problems 10x worse, I went to a dermatologist and got on a low dose of antibiotics and cleared the acne up in 4 months and took another 4 months for the skin to return to almost normal condition so its not nearly as oily anymore..

Over washing and harsh facial washes can make things way worse, Just be careful you don鈥檛 over do it

What does vinegar do for hair? What does washing hair with vinegar do for it?
Vinegar restores the ph in your hair which helps the hair retain moisture. It removes residues left by shampoos, conditioners, and other styling products. It also helps the color take when dying hair, clothing and easter eggs. What does washing hair with vinegar do for it?
It makes it blonder and shinier just add about 2 teaspoons of it in your shampoo or conditioner.
It gets it super clean by removing dirt and oil deposits that have turned waxy and dull the sheen. The result being that it makes your hair shiny.
Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a ';little'; honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences ';clean happy'; conditioner.

When I do this at nite, I wake up, shampoo %26amp; condition, rinse and style as usual. Has worked for years

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

You don't wash hair with it. You make the final rinse with it. Add about 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to the water, and rinse The smell dissipates after awhile. It adds a shine and keeps the shampoo from making the hair filmy. It makes an acidic base which reflects off of the hair. It also helps to detangle it.
I never heard of vinegar shampooing. White vinegar mixed with water is a wonderful way to detangle freshly shampooed hair - acts as a water softener and takes out any left over shampoo and hard water residue from the hair.
Get rid of the oilyness from your hair.
Well really your not washing it with vinegar you wash your hair and then use vinegar. What it does is close your hair cuticle. This is usually only done when your hair is really really really damaged. You can condition afterwards to try to get rid of the vinegar smell and you should rinse the vinegar and conditioner out with the coolest temp water you can stand.

Put about 2 capfuls of white vinegar into the drawer and then put the machine on a cold wash (about 30 degrees).

NEVER use malt vinegar ( the one you put on your chips !) as this will leave a smell.

White vinegar is great for all sorts of uses. Use one part white vinegar to 8 parts water, put in an old spray bottle and spray on to your windows. Wipe your windows or mirrors over with old newspaper and you'll have a lovely shine! x
Vinegar works, but not as well as SnoBowl. A friend gave me that tip years ago and I have religiously cleaned my washer ever since.

I put an entire container of SnoBowl in my washer (directly in the drum and about a cup or so in the drawers--I have a front loader). Then I run a heavy cycle on HOT. Afterwards, I run a second cycle to flush the system out one more time before I wash clothes--usually on cold. I do this once or twice a year.

This cleans out all the hard water stains, rust, and goop out of the washer and helps get your clothes cleaner. I am entirely happy with this method. My whites always get really white.
White vinegar does tend to smell like vomit. Why not just run a hot cycle with laundry detergent? You only need to worry about limescale if you are in a hard water area where your kettle furs up. Vinegar might help this slightly but it will be so dilute it won;t make much difference.
put white vinegar into the dispensing draw and then just run a boil wash cycle... you can also put in some soda crystals and bicarb. they both help descale and clean...
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you should keep your vinegar as far away as possible from your washing machine, buddy.

Use a hand wash method for delicate fabrics. Soak in a vinegar water solution (it will clean well and remove grease, body oils, sweat, etc). Add some salt to the mix. Let it sit for an hour or so, rinse well. Your color should be set. Use a delicate wash from then on just in case.Does washing clothes in vinegar and cold water make them colour fast?
To make Easter Egg dye stay on the eggs, you dip in vinegar while the dye on the egg is hot.

So, soaking the garment in vinegar and hot water will make it colorfast...but the hot water could cause the garment to shrink.

Your best bet is vinegar with equal amount of cold water...allow it to soak. Then launder as usual. The vinegar smell will dissipate as it dries. And I assume that will be air dry.
In quilt making you use this method to set dies in fabrics, We have a huge problem in combining all the colors and fabrics and not having colors ';bleed'; onto each other. If your mum's suit is dryer safe I would toss it in the dryer too.

The acid in vinegar washes away styling products that can cling to hair despite shampooing so I would use the vinegar mix after shampooing. Since the acid in vinegar closes the cuticle of each hair strand, your hair will be shinier but flatter. In other words, you will be trading a little less fullness for a little more gloss. Hope this helps.....When you put Apple cider vinegar mixed with water in your hair do you wash it with shampoo first or after?

I heard that you shampoo first, skip the conditioner, then apply the vinegar mixture. The vinegar mixture is supposedly what conditions your hair.

  • Can you use Baking Soda and Vinegar to wash dreads? ?

i recently read online that you can add baking soda to your dreads, then spray your hair with vinegar to cause the bubbling reaction in your hair as a hair care tip for your dreads. your stupposed to rinse it out then use a clarifying shampoo to get the rest to the baking soda and residue out of your hair. is there any truth to this?

this is the website, feel free to read for yourself.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article鈥?/a> Can you use Baking Soda and Vinegar to wash dreads? ?
Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda are very popular for washing dreads and work really well. However I'm not sure that is the best method of using it.

    Here's what I suggest:

First get a big bowl with about a pint of water (the amount really isn't that important, rough estimates are fine, just fill the bowl pretty full!) Add a teaspoon of salt, 5 teaspoons of baking soda, and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Stir it good, it should get really fizzy. Dip your dreads in it, use a cup to poor of it over the other harder to reach parts, then wrap it in a towel and let it soak. Let that soak in your hair as long as you can; I think I did 45 minutes to an hour, that worked well for me.

After that rinse it all out well with water and your normal soap if you want. Then in the same bowl (emptied out of course) dilute some Apple Cider Vinegar. It should be about 1 part vinegar to 6 parts water. Poor it on your scalp, give it a good rub and then let it soak in your again; try to do it as long as you can stand it, the vinegar doesn't exactly smell good!

Then rinse all that out again and you're all done. It's good for deep cleaning your dreads and is good for your scalp.

Not sure if you are considering this for yourself or were just curious about the method, but either way let me know if there's anything else I can do to help : )

Can you use vinegar in a washing machine to eliminate soap sludge?

if so how much do you use? how often would you use this ? would you do a hot wash? and would you put the vinegar in where the fabric softener usually goes? Can you use vinegar in a washing machine to eliminate soap sludge?
What kind of Machine do you have? Is it a front loading machine? Also if so there is something called Fresh in stores for that reason. Also vinegar could be used, but I don't. I use just hot water in a double rinse cycle, and or a cup of bleach works in my machine, but then I have a front loading one also. Also if you are using powdered soap, stop, it causes build up...at least it did for me and caused this issue. But, look in stores for Fresh and there is something else to but cannot think of the name of it you can use. Good luck, and you might want to think of cutting back on using some detergent also. Can you use vinegar in a washing machine to eliminate soap sludge?
No, it will corrode your machine.

Also it won't remove soap sludge. It would only remove limescale
I just use Simple Green to clean it out. Also, I put baking soda in with my wash (Arm and Hammer). It's cheap I get a five pound bag at COSTCO for like $4.48 or something like that.

Simple Green works wonders on many things and it is bio (but it is not a germ killer it is a cleaner). You can use it on the lawnmower, the tires and rims. The railings that you touch and get black from your hands. The weed whacker. Tools.

I don't know if this will solve your problem but it can't hurt.
Yes you can use vinegar. Vinegar helps (HELPS) break down soap scum. I usually put it in where the detergent goes, and also put some in a Downy ball to be sure there is still some in the rise cycle.

    Hot water is best.
Soda and fresh lemon juice. Run an empty wash.
Well, IF the soap sludge is due to you having hard water or water with lots of mineral content, yeah, the white vinegar will help. Hot wash and put the vinegar right in with the wash water.

After doing the vinegar wash, check the machine and see if the ';sludge'; is improved. If not, try using a one load dose of dishwasher detergent (powder is best) and hot water. My appliance guy recommends that you run one load a month with the stuff especially if you have a front loader to help keep the screens clean and other gunk at bay.

And if your machine has a load sensor that tells it how many clothes are in it so it knows how much water to use, you're going to have to put some things in with either treatment. The vinegar wash wouldn't hurt anything and does help keep darks from fading. But the dishwasher detergent will have bleaching tendencies and I'd put stuff in there that some bleaching won't hurt. When I run my load about once a month, I do my husbands shop rags, dog bedding or doggie bath towels.
Ordinary washing soda, bag cost about 50 pence @asda. Put whole bag in tub, close door, very hot wash, all gunge gone, drains etc clear.
I prefer soda crystals - don't smell so much
Yes you can. I put it in with dark washes as it helps stop colour fading. It also reduces 'bobbling'. I fill a dosing ball with white distilled vinegar and just pop it in the machine, and no you can't smell it when the cycle has finished.
    wouldn't recommend

Vinegar in your wash will whiten your whites, will it brighten your dark wash too??

And it will make your teeth squeaky clean and bright!!!!!

What in the world does this have to do with dentistry????Vinegar in your wash will whiten your whites, will it brighten your dark wash too??
vinegar does have some bleaching effect; it serves two purposes in the laundry. Vinegar is mildly antibacterial. When added to a final rinse, vinegar (acid) neutralizes soap or detergent (alkaline) residue. By removing this residue, your clothes will indeed appear to be brighter.

Vinegar is a strong acid; you should consult a dental expert before using it as a tooth brightener.Vinegar in your wash will whiten your whites, will it brighten your dark wash too??
vinegar like bleach is an acid. no it will only lighten (bleach out) your colours.

If I';m going to wash black pants w/ a cup of vinegar what is my water temp. suppose to be..cold, warm or hot?

I enjoyed answers from one question, but I want to know if the temperature of my wash is hot, very hot, warm, or cold?If I';m going to wash black pants w/ a cup of vinegar what is my water temp. suppose to be..cold, warm or hot?
turn the pants inside outIf I';m going to wash black pants w/ a cup of vinegar what is my water temp. suppose to be..cold, warm or hot?
If I am concerned about the pants shrinking-then I always use cold...if not then I use warm water for sanitary reasons.

FYI....when washing new clothing that you are not sure if it is color fast or not-I suggest either soaking them alone in vinegar or salt...or washing the garment alone with either a cup or two of white vinegar or plain table salt. These both serves as a natural color fixatives. To be safe - after either soaking these garments in vinegar or salt or on their first wash with mixed items - I always use a product made by SHOUT called Color Catcher. It is a small sheet that you use with your wash and it is amazing how much random bleeding color it catches. Depending on wash load size-I sometimes use two to be safe.

Another Product worth mentioning-that is on the market called RETAYNE can also be used to fix colors in cotton products. You use it before washing a garment that is likely to bleed. For best results, you treat the garment with Retayne prior to laundering for the first tie. Not only will it prevent the garment from bleeding, it will also help to keep colors brighter, longer. Again, as with anything, try it out in an inconspicuous area first and read the directions carefully. use warm for sanitary reasons. The vinegar will do it's job of setting the color in any temperature. After the initial wash-bleeding should not be an issue. I haven't tried it yet but I have heard that the detergents for cold water washing-whites or colors work very well.

*After the initial color-setting with any product - your wash water temperature should not be an issue unless you are using a standard washing liquid/powder and you are using warm/hot water for sanitary reasons (instead of the cold water wash usually recommended for colored clothing). I haven't tried it yet but I have heard that the new cold water wash detergents that they were created for both white and colored washes are really doing a super job on clothing. I am the last (finishing off a super-sized container of standard detergent) in my family that is making the conversion. There is a lot to be said for cold water washing...especially if you have missed a stain and only notice it after the laundry has been done. Stains are always easier to remove if they were washed in cold water.
wash them in cold water and add the vinegar to the rinse making sure that the final rinse is clear water ,no suds allowed or your pants will have white streaks in them.
Wash and rinse in cold. i usually add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle.
I wash all black clothing in cold water. You don't need the vinegar after the first wash where it sets the dye
Wash colors in cold water to keep from fading.
cold water is the best thing to do all laundry in. it doesnt set stains.

    Vinegar in washing rinse cycle?

Can you use vinegar in the rinse cycle along with normal washing powder safely? Will your clothes have a bad smell afterwards?Vinegar in washing rinse cycle?
I also use vinegar often. I keep a huge bottle by the machine along with a box of baking soda. If your clothes ever get that musky smell (like your towels or laundry that sat in the washing machine too long) at the start of your load add 3/4 cup of vinegar to the water than add your clothes as usual. On the rinse cycle add about 1/2 cup more of vinegar and sprinkle a little baking soda in there too. VOILA.. no more bad smells!! Throw in the dryer with your usual dryer sheet and you can never tell there was ever a bad smell or that you used vinegar!!Vinegar in washing rinse cycle?
I use it all the time. I keep a large container right on my dryer. I pour in maybe a 1/4 cup in the last rinse cycle. I takes the place of fabric softener. The towels are more absorbent and there is no lingering smell.
You can and it probably wouldn't leave a smell. Best thing is to use a towel and give it a go. I will say though that washing powder is a base and vinegar is an acid. It is quite possible that you will be reducing the ability of the wash powder with the vinegar. If you want to rinse in vinegar, you should probably do so in the sink.
yes you can a couple of tablespoons.

It neutralises the soap, and no, it doesn't leave a smell, as long as you use plain white vinegar.

just add it when the rinse cycle is starting, or put it in the wash softener dispenser.
Yes, I regularly use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. The vinegar smell does not linger on the clothes.

But I think it may not be safe to use on silk, so leave it out when you wash those items.

Do you wash Lettuce, Blueberry and Strawberry before eating them? Just with water or with vinegar too?

THANKSDo you wash Lettuce, Blueberry and Strawberry before eating them? Just with water or with vinegar too?
Just water, never heard of the vinegar thing.Do you wash Lettuce, Blueberry and Strawberry before eating them? Just with water or with vinegar too?
Wash before eat it more safe. I wash the lettuce with salt water. the lettuce contain pesticides. Blueberry and strawberry with just wash running water wash a few time. I never try before vinegar to wash vegetable or fruit. Vinegar can help to lock the vitamin on the vegetable when it is using knife to cut. If you use w/out a knife to cut your vegetable the vitamin still in the vegetable. Tear piece to wash so the vitamin will not run into the water
Yes. Wash all produce before eating it, only with water. Nothing else is needed. There have been too many scares with packaged lettuce having e.coli (the types that are pre-washed), so I wash everything under running water. If it pertains to lettuce and salad greens, I wash them using running water, with the greens placed in the inner basket of my salad spinner, and then I spin the greens with the spinner to get as much moisture off before adding salad dressing or oil %26amp; vinegar.
i wash mine with just water, thats usually how i wash all of my fruits and veggies.
with water is fine, but make sure it's clean water that you can drink or at least ingest a litlte of. if you live in a place that you can't drink the tap water you might consider using drinking water, or if it's easier maybe the vinegar thing would work. i'be never heard of that though.

most vegtables you get at the store (or from your garden for that matter) should be washed, to remove excess dirt and in some cases pesticides and preservatives.

if you buy fruit frozen in a bag you dont need to wash them, but they sometimes have more sugar added to them and arent' as nutrutionally valuable.
I usually just wash them under the faucet.

To be honest, I really should wash them better then I do...
    Yeah, sure!!!!!!!
all you really need is water
    just water
Yes, each time. Only wash them when you're ready to use it, or it will get soggy. There is a product you can get in a grocery store that you can use in the rinse water. Sorry, I can't think of what it's called, but it's with the dish soap generally.
Yes, I wash lettuce, I think it'd be gross if you didn't.

    Blueberries not so much.

I wash strawberries with water and sugar...yum. haha

I was told that soaking your new black shirt(100% cotton) in vinegar will help it from fading when you wash it

We all have had that favorite dark colored shirt that fades and ends up with a ';frost'; of fade on it. Next time you buy dark (or bright) colored clothing, set the color by soaking the garment for an hour in a mix of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the process. Use this technique only for single-colored items, because multi-colored items may bleed into each other. Multicolored items will likely need to be dry-cleaned. The clothing will still fade, but after many more washes. This will also prevent already laundered items from fading even more...I was told that soaking your new black shirt(100% cotton) in vinegar will help it from fading when you wash it
vinegar can help to set the dye which prevents it from bleeding out and looking faded.I was told that soaking your new black shirt(100% cotton) in vinegar will help it from fading when you wash it

In the future stop over crowding the washing machine. Cleaning the

-.clothes is more dependant on getting the water through the material than it is on the soap. You can actually get clothes clean with just plain water. If the machine is crowded the clothes can not move around and get clean.
Once washed the sheets are sterile and clean. The stains may remain as evidence but that is no big deal. Boys produce semen and it comes out in wet dreams, sex, or masturbation. Sometimes we just do not catch it right.

I have seen people wash there clothes with baking soda and vinegar whats that do?

Baking soda makes the water softer so it lifts dirt better. It also helps get rid of odors.

Vinegar is acidic, and since most smelly stuff is alkaline, it cancels out the odor. Cheryl Mendelson in Home Comforts doesn't believe it does much good for preserving colors or cleaning, though.I have seen people wash there clothes with baking soda and vinegar whats that do?

Neutralize odors in the wash machine as well for your clothes.
I think that's so the color won't fade away, or they don't want the color to leak on a next color.
I used these products together this weekend to take the smell of mothballs out of clothes. Worked great!! Plus it's cheaper than detergent. Highly recommend!!

They both work as a natural bleach and disinfectant. But white vinegar though. Lemon also does the same trick. But I'm not sure about doseage.

Well, I've been all over their web-site just now and can't find anything specific about the washing; judging from the pictures, I don't know why you'd need something so special (it's not a baking stone, after all, for example). A mild dish detergent would be good (and white vinegar isn't going to hurt). If, as you think, there are special washing instructions before using it the first time, then that should be included in the packaging of the pots themselves.

I'll paste in the url for the company and also an email add and phone # for a distributor in WI; you should be able to get somewhere with them. Good Luck!

It will remove any soap residue. It also seems to leave clothes softer. Vinegar is used by many in place of fabric softener. It is especially good on towels, as fabric softener coats the fibers and makes them less absorbent. What would happen if i put 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in the wash?
I also heard that if you put in too much soap the vinegar will stop the extra suds or could rinse the extra soap out of your clothes with the vinegar instead of an extra rinse.
When you are washing whites, it might be best to play safe and use white/colourless vinegar just in case of staining. It should leave them softer and leave no vinegar smell.

Though I have not heard of vinegar being used to prevent fading, vinegar added to your regular wash along with your regular detergent will remove mildew odor from clothes. No smell of vinegar remains following the rinse cycle. The amount of vinegar you use is dependent on the size of the load. For a regular large load, 1/2 cup of vinegar is enough. If you have an extra large capacity washer and are filling it up, then 1 cup of vinegar can be used.
wash your clothes in warm to cold water the usual way, then add the white vinegar in the final rinse
Its stops from fading but please don't use this for cloths use it for making tye dye shirts.

Salt or vinegar? can I wash a dress that's silk even though tag says dry clean?

the dress is a blue color, and I have washed silk shirts before even thought they say dry clean only. It has a lip gloss stain on front, and was gonna use shout, and then then wash on gentle, with some vinegar or salt to hold color in. does anyone have any suggestions?Salt or vinegar? can I wash a dress that's silk even though tag says dry clean?
It is safe to hand wash, but do not use shout, vinegar or salt. You will have to pick up a gentle laundry wash like Woolite or Delicare. I personally have Delicare here as the instructions are very exact and I think it works better. It smells better in my opinion too.

Put a small amount of the laundry wash on the stain after it is wet and work it in gently. Follow instructions on laundry wash of choice for hand washing. Make sure you wash and rinse the garment in cold water only.

Once washed and rinse, air dry only. Do not put it in the dryer. Once it is completely dry, check to see if any stain remains. If so, repeat washing steps.

If you tea stain a curtain, does setting it with vinegar make any difference when you wash it?

I don't think it would hurt. I have heard that it does and doesn't take too much effort or money to try it. So, go for it.If you tea stain a curtain, does setting it with vinegar make any difference when you wash it?
I remember once on the Christopher Lowell show (WHAT a flaming Queen, gotta love 'im!) he said that sometimes tea doesn't provide a deep enough dye and if you wanted to go darker try using coffee. So, if you can't find the right shade with tea, try coffee. I've never tried the vinegar part, but couldn't hurt.If you tea stain a curtain, does setting it with vinegar make any difference when you wash it?
Tea stains are permanent. My gramma taught me to tea stain white bras in the 60's... I have been doing it for years. I have never ';set'; the stains and as much as bras get washed, I have never had the tea wash out or fade. Don't bother... rinse 'em, dry 'em and iron 'em and hang them up to enjoy.

How do you set colors, so they don't run in the wash? Red onto white, etc. Is it salt or vinegar?

I have to new shirts that are mostly white, but have red and blue as trim. If I wash them without setting the colors 1st the color will bleed all over the white!!! Help DonnaHow do you set colors, so they don't run in the wash? Red onto white, etc. Is it salt or vinegar?
Cold water will set a color too.How do you set colors, so they don't run in the wash? Red onto white, etc. Is it salt or vinegar?
If the fabric is polyester you use vinegar, if it's cotton or rayon use salt. The majority of fabrics nowadays are one of these fabrics or a blend of poly and cotton. Cotton and rayon are the worst for bleeding because the dyes on them are actually attracted more to water than to the fabric itself.

Can I use vinegar in rinse cycle if I add 20 mule team borax to wash cycle?

I am trying to find ways to get away from fabric softener products and dryer sheets. I'm going to try adding 20 mule team borax to the wash cycle on my front loader. I use Tide Free HE detergent.

I am told to use white vinegar in the rinse cycle in place of fabric softener to soften the clothes. Can I still use the vinegar if I use the borax additive? Can I use vinegar in rinse cycle if I add 20 mule team borax to wash cycle?
Yes...you can add vinegar to the rinse cycle. Not only does it work as a fabric softener, it helps get rid of built up soap in your clothes (which attracts dirt). It is also good for the washer/drains.Can I use vinegar in rinse cycle if I add 20 mule team borax to wash cycle?
There is no reason for it to be a problem - they don't cancel each other out if that's what you're worried about.
    yes
i dont see why not i use vinegar it is awesome especially with the towel!
Have you seen those balls for fluffing laundry in the dryer? They come two to a set, about the size of tennis balls with little bumps all over. You put them in the dryer and they seperate the fabrics and fluff it up. The clothes come out soft with less static with no chemicals.

    I love my dryer balls!

  • How does vinegar and it chemical properties prolong the color of clothing. (During the wash)?

I heard from people that it works, but how does it work? How does vinegar and it chemical properties prolong the color of clothing. (During the wash)?
Certain detergents contain 'brighteners' that cancel the (bleaching) effects of the chlorine in city drinking water. Cut a strip of dyed colored cloth in two. Place one strip in a dish with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water and the other strip in a similar dish of bleach and water with vinegar added. Notice any difference in color change.

I've heard that if I wash my windows with Vinegar they will be very clean and clear. Do I dilute it or what?

Dilute it 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. Sounds weird but, wash your windows on a cloudy day instead of a sunny day. You will see the streaks better.. good luck....I've heard that if I wash my windows with Vinegar they will be very clean and clear. Do I dilute it or what?
Half and HalfI've heard that if I wash my windows with Vinegar they will be very clean and clear. Do I dilute it or what?
Yes, dilute the vinegar with water.

10% Vinegar and 90% Water. Use Newspaper to wipe. Old fashioned methods are sometimes better!
    Yes.
    Dilute it a little bit.

    It works well.

I use half and half...works great
You can use 1 part vinegar to 9 or 10 parts water and it still works

Is it really necessary to wash raw meat/poultry in water, lime, and vinegar before cooking?

My mom swears that if you don't add the lime/vinegar, the meat will stink and smell ';fresh'; once it's cooked. She also takes a certain part of the egg out from the cake before baking for the same reason.

She says she can tell when someone hasn't done this before cooking and she says it makes her want to hurl when she smells it. Anybody else ever heard of this?Is it really necessary to wash raw meat/poultry in water, lime, and vinegar before cooking?
sorry but I have never heard of that before with the lime/vinegar for meat or for chicken. Now I do wash my chicken in water just like I would a turkey but not with the lime or the vinegar. I would think that the vinegar you would taste it but I could be wrong. But I don't think I will try it any time soon if ever.Is it really necessary to wash raw meat/poultry in water, lime, and vinegar before cooking?
Not long ago, studies came out that said you should NOT wash your poultry before using it. You run a much bigger risk of accidentally contaminating kitchen surfaces by rinsing the poultry and splashing around. Washing your hands and utensils and countertops afterward is the biggest way to prevent getting sick. Use paper towels for cleaning and hand drying. It's safer than using a kitchen towel.
u actually shouldn't wash raw meat due to the fact that it can spread bacteria. all the bacteria cooks away...if u feel the need to clean the meat, pat it with a damp paper towel and throw away immediately. lime and vinegar are primarily used for when u are marinating to keep it fresher longer since it's out of the package. as long as the meat doesn't smell when u first take it out of the package, u are fine.
Cold water at least. I hope she means the fruity kind of lime, and not the caustic stuff used for heavy duty cleaning. Also, wouldn't vinegar make it smell sort of rotten?

If you got it out of a supermarket, you're probably safe just rinsing with cold water.
Yes, you do have to rinse your meat off with water because, most meat has a lot of blood contained in it or what it is packaged in, and just to be safe you need to rinse it under warm or cold water.
it's only necessary to wash in water.

the lime and vinegar would only add a little flavor.

(and it seems your mom just really likes that added flavor.)
    Actually, no.

To prep poultry you are just supposed to rinse it with cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

Some people have more sensitive noses than others...your mom is apparently one of them!
no i don't think it is necessary because me and my sister cook together all the time and since we are vegetarians i am talking about when we used to eat meat all we did was wash it off with water
hmm, not completely necessary... she sounds like she has some sort of ocd about it....
Never....I do rinse my chicken, but that is all. I have been cooking for 50 years

Is it ok to wash my balls with vinegar?

My girl says they smell bad lately, like cheez doodles. I dont know why. I shower daily. She said maybe I should use vinegar. Should I?Is it ok to wash my balls with vinegar?
well, i dont think it would hurt to try it. but vinegar does not smell too good itself...so maybe add something to cover up the vinegar smell...do you really want her down there and smelling vinegar? it would seem like a turn off to me. everyone does have their own smell. maybe trim up a bit and clean it thoroughly and you may prevent most of the smell. just keep it trimmed and neat and you should be able to have an easier time cleaning it.Is it ok to wash my balls with vinegar?
don't use it. Maybe you are sweating guy. And that sweating cause of your odor. Just make sure before you go to your friend take a bath and wash your balls carefully. That's it. Just use soap and water. Good luck.
I wouldn't recommend it. HAHAHAHA, Hell Nah

Is it better to use salt or vinegar to set the color of fabric the first wash?

I'm washing a silk dress that has a stain on it. The tag says dry clean only but, I've washed silk shirts before with no problem. I'm just wondering if the color will bleed and if I should use salt or vinegar to set the color, and also what should I use to get the stain out (its lip gloss) and dress is brand new got as discountIs it better to use salt or vinegar to set the color of fabric the first wash?
Vinegar is acidic , and will fade some fabrics . My grandmother always told em to use salt to set in colors , and when I wash my husbands jeans I always uses salt to set the color in and yes it does work . If I am just washing one pair of his jeans I use 1 1/2 cup of salt . but for your silk dress I would dissolve 3/4 o a cup of salt in warm water and let it sit for a few minutes until the water is cool , and wash the dress on gentle cycle , and then if your gonna dry it , dry it on the air dry setting .

As for stains I now use ZOTE it is a laundry bar it is very gentle , but yet powerful at removing stains even dried milk on babys clothes red clay , and even greasy stains . You can get it at some dollar stores , but I havent seen any at the dollar stores in the small town I live in , so I get mine at a local Latino store , for the small bar it is around 67 cents and for a large 14.1 oz is about a dollar and it lasts for a long time .Is it better to use salt or vinegar to set the color of fabric the first wash?
salt, one load one box of salt. But I would think twice on silk, Lip Gloss is greasey and is very hard to get out. My husband washes his clothes with a can of coke to get grease out.

Using RIT dye in the wash, do you need salt or vinegar, or a fixative after?

I am planning to dye 7 1/2 yards of 100% cotton twill in the washer. Do I need any bonding agents during or after the wash?

Also, if the color is not deep enough, can I dye again? (The store is about an hour away, and we're on a schedule, so it would be great to go ahead and see if what we have will work first.)Using RIT dye in the wash, do you need salt or vinegar, or a fixative after?
You always set colors in clothing with a bit of vinegar in your wash. This is from a child of the seventies--love that tiedyed-- and a manager of a Fabric Store.Using RIT dye in the wash, do you need salt or vinegar, or a fixative after?
Read the directions. I believe RIT asks for some salt, but that's been awhile since I've used it. Best to follow the directions!!

If the colour is not deep enough, yes, you can dye over it. Dry a piece of it to see the true colour, since it looks dark when wet. Be sure you read the directions, and use the right amount of dye for the amount of material you have. That will ensure good results.
Yes you can over dye (dye again).

Rit says for best results to add salt to the dye bath:

Always follow manufacturer's care instructions for your fabric as well as RIT Dye package or bottle instructions.

Remove stains on fabric with RIT Super Stain Remover or RIT Color Remover before dyeing to achieve uniform color results.

Choose your colors. You can use one, two, three or as many colors as you like on one garment. However, if you use more than one color, it's usually best to start with the lightest color.

Be sure to use enough dye for the weight or size of the project. For example, for a pound of dry fabric (about 3 yards), use one package of RIT powder or 1/2 bottle of RIT liquid in

    3 gallons of water.

Dissolve powder dye thoroughly in 2 cups of very hot water first to avoid dye spotting. Stir dissolved powder dye or well-shaken liquid dye into dye bath until evenly dispersed. Never pour liquid or powder dye directly on fabric.

For the deepest color, use a water temperature of 140潞F/60潞C.

When dyeing 1 pound of dry fabric of dark or bright colors such as Black, Dark Brown, Cocoa Brown, Navy, Purple, Aubergine, Wine, and Dark Green, use double the amount, or 2 packages of RIT powder or 1 bottle of RIT liquid, in 3 gallons of water.

For best color results when dyeing fabrics containing cotton, rayon, ramie, or linen, add 1 cup salt.

The longer the garment is immersed in the dye bath, the deeper the resulting color. Items can remain in the dye bath up to 1 hour as long as the water remains hot. You'll also have to make sure the item receives constant agitation or stirring.

Garments will take dye differently due to their fabric content and weight. For example, we've shown below the varying shades of tangerine when used on different types of fabrics.

I have a 6x6 gilt mirror . I normally wash windows and mirrors with water and vinegar.?

I then polish with newspaper, just wondering if anybody has any other tips, for large areas of glass or mirrors?I have a 6x6 gilt mirror . I normally wash windows and mirrors with water and vinegar.?
You could try a squeegee.I have a 6x6 gilt mirror . I normally wash windows and mirrors with water and vinegar.?
you can use baking soda or dawn dish soap or rubbing alcoholic Good luck
you can go to a dollar store or walmart or something like that and purchase a smaller window washer like the ones they use for a car windshield. does great.
Get a GOOD squeegee from a janitorial supply store. Mix up some Joy for Dishes just like you would to wash dishes. Wash thoroughly with a wet towel or sponge, then squeegee. Use a soft diaper or similar cloth to wipe up the edges.
I use a squeegee for the big jobs. Water and vinegar are the best!
you are actually already doing the best thing for your mirror
    nail polish remover. it works!
The best invention ever: Microfiber Use a microfiber cloth on both windows and glass. Leaves an incredibly clean surface like you have never seen before. Never leaves streaks or lint.

Use wet. You can also use dry for dusting. Just do NOT use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Most stores sell them now or you can check the internet or QVC.com. I use a Microfiber mop that makes cleaning floors and wood floors the easiest and cleanest ever. You use only water and no chemicals for the cleanest floors ever. Because it is only an extremely damp cloth it can be used on wood also

If I use vinegar in my rinse cycle of wash, do I still need to use fabric softener?

This would save a lot on fabric softener. Has anyone heard of this before? If I use vinegar in my rinse cycle of wash, do I still need to use fabric softener?
I've been doing it for years and no you do not need to use fabric softener because the vinegar softens the fibers. And even if you hang dry the item the salad smell will dissipate and the fibers will remain relaxed. If I use vinegar in my rinse cycle of wash, do I still need to use fabric softener?
No, use 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse water.

Note, if washing dark clothes, adding vinegar helps to prevent white lint from sticking to the clothes.

When the clothes are dry, You Won't smell the vinegar
no you won't have to use the fabric softener.

but you will find that depending on how much you use, the items you wash could retain the vinegar smell.

Can I wash out Maltese tear stains with vinegar?

Will vinegar work if I add some vinegar to a shampoo and conditioner mix washing my dog's face? He is a Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese mix.Can I wash out Maltese tear stains with vinegar?
Absolutely not. There is a product called Angel Eyes that works pretty well. Can I wash out Maltese tear stains with vinegar?
The hair is stained, vinegar is not going to remove it. The only way to get rid of the stains is to PREVENT them from ever happening. The stain is caused by bacteria nicknamed ';red yeast'; that thrives in warm, most areas. There is an OTC antibiotic called Angel Eyes that will prevent the bacteria from growing. Your job is to keep the area clean and dry. Wipe the eyes daily.
Don't do that but I heard if you put a few drops of Apple Cider Vinegar in their water that is supposed to work. If you have the money I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Angel Eyes. I have not tried it yet but I am fixing to order some today.
I would not go anywhere near my dog's eyes with vinegar. Some pet stores and vets offices sell a special powder that you can put on your dogs food or a solution that you can out directly on them that will stop the tears.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! They sell shampoos that clean that area by the dogs eye. You can buy it almost at any department store.

The tips that have already been provided are great. There is also a new paper towel by Bounty that says it's specifically for glass. I'm not a person who gets the newspaper regularly so it suits me but newspaper is definitely cheaper. Vingegar is great but I hate the smell so I use either Windex or window cleaner you can get at Home Depot.
Windex leaves marks. I don't like it on windows.. Try to buy the CVS brand, that has ammonia and doesn't leave marks, but use a newspaper.

if so? how much vinager do you use? also whats the soak time?Is it true that if you soak new clothes in vinegar be for the first wash, it sets the color for less fading?
To set colors in colored items, soak them for an hour in a mix of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1/2 gallon of water. If the rinse water shows color after an hour, repeat the process. Use this technique only for single-colored items, because multi-colored items may bleed into each other. Multicolored items will likely need to be dry-cleaned:)Is it true that if you soak new clothes in vinegar be for the first wash, it sets the color for less fading?

It's crazy how much it helped Report Abuse

Not a good idea. Vinegar can set dyes in freshly dyed cotton shirts. Otherwise, it will pull dye out and make it look faded.
true. a cup of white vinegar in some cold water will set colors and prevent fading. also you can wash them inside out to prevent fading. soak for 15-30 minutes.
That sounds like rumor started by the vinegar industry to boost sales.
Thumbs up to Tay. I use salt, vinegar, and cold water to set things that will be very difficult to wash, such as my son's white tshirts with red raglan sleeves and red felt lettering sewn on the front. I then never have a problem with the red bleeding into the white.
salt will also work, but turn your clothes inside out.
never herd of that but in my washload i use 1 cup of vinegar to every washload and the clothes do come out colorful and very clean i do not know what that first woman was talking about everyone knows vinegar in your washload makes your clothes much more brighter and whiter so do add 1 cup of vinegar when you wash your clothing not only this time all the time and you will see your clothes come brighter and whiter every time.

Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?

My female cat has been spraying around our house. I've only found one spot where she's sprayed but the moment you walk in our front door the smell about knocks you out so I am assuming there must be more than I have found. I want to know if a mixture of vinegar and water will damage the painted walls to try to get rid of the awful smell? Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?
Smells caused by pets can be treated with rubbing the area with a cloth dipped in white vinegar. Vinegar won't harm painted surfaces and will kill bacteria that cause the smell. If you are worried dilute the vinegar to a 1/2 solution. Test a small area of the wall first where it cannot be seen to be on the safe side. Undiluted white vinegar can be dabbed on other areas to combat smells and bacteria. Can I wash my painted walls with vinegar and water?
The paint should be ok on it, use less vinegar than you think you should though. Any that gets on a carpet will try to bleach out the dyes there, so be careful. Use it with a sponge, that seems to work best.

Have you tried soap and water on the area first? I'd give that a try first. Don't scrub hard unless it's a gloss finish. A matte finish is more apt to come off if you scrub.

it takes smells out and it brightens colors.

It is also great for setting in the colors that tend to bleed. How do you wash clothes with vinegar?
Collect your dirty clothes and separate them into groups: whites, light colors, dark colors.

    Step2

Fill a sink or bowl with at least 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. For tougher stains use 1 part vinegar to 1 part water.

    Step3

Add garments one or two at a time, depending on the space available. Let them soak for a few minutes.

    Step4

Rinse the clothing with clean water.

    Step5

Hang on a clothesline either inside or outside to dry.
I don't use vinegar to wash clothes, but do add it to some loads as it softens clothing without leaving a vinegar smell.

  • If you wash clothing in vinegar before wearing it?

does it keep the colors from fading as fast? Make them less likely to bleed later?

My mother-in-law does this and says that is why. I've never tried it and was wondering if anyone else has tried it and had it work.If you wash clothing in vinegar before wearing it?
Yes vinegar sets the colour in natural blend fabrics. As a fine arts major in university, my mom (who graduated at the age of 55) did a lot of fabric weaving and dying and spinning and dying of wool using both natural dyes and commercial dyes. Vinegar is what she used to set the colour. %26lt;sigh%26gt; yea your M-I-L is right this time.If you wash clothing in vinegar before wearing it?
I have to say that i have never heard of such a thing, and i have been washing for a number of years, and believe it or not i have not had much colour fade and i have had some of my clothes for a long while, i think it is the way people wash their clothes. What i mean is i have and always have done my washing on the right program for the material that i have put into the wash, from hot to cool washes, and as for putting anything other than normal soap powder and softener i have never heard of putting vinegar in the wash.
Us older people were told years ago that vinegar SETS the color in fabric. I'm not sure that it still holds true or if this was meant more for the older cotton fabrics that we usually had. It sure doesn't hurt, and if it helps, your that much better off.
Vinegar will set colors. It's not foolproof but certainly does help. You can also add vinegar to your wash water and your rinse cycle.

Can you use vinegar with a front load wash machine?

I would like to use vinegar in my machine. Has anyone had great success doing this with a front loader? How much do you use? Do you pour it in the compartment that would normally hold fabric softener? Thanks. Can you use vinegar with a front load wash machine?
you could but only a small amount and put in the soap area as the amount of water for the wash and rinses will get rid of the smell ................the fabric conditioner only goes in during the final rinse hence why you keep the smellCan you use vinegar with a front load wash machine?
Yes, it works wonderful! Just use in place of the softener in the compartment and if you still want the softener, put it in the bleach compartment. Nothing will smell like vinegar, so it's safe for clothes. It's actually good for the machine, keeps away mineral deposits!
Yes - White Vinegar softens the water and eliminates static in the dryer. For a full load I use 1/2 cup, 1/4c medium load and 1/8c small load. It is the best softener and inexpensive without leaving any odor.
    Sure you can

just don't put close in with it

unless you want to smell like vineger
use charcoal or baking soda, not the vinegar.
No. dont do it, you will smell of fish and chips lol

than do it 2 weeks after that

and than ones a month than probably never again after that, unless the problem repeats itself for some reason.

How do you wash whites using white vinegar?

What I normally do is put my laundry, a reasonable amount of detergent, pour a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and hot water and let it soak overnight. We have hard water in Ontario, can't hang it outside because there is no clothesline and fear of racoons and skunks. Right now, we just line dry it inside. How do you wash whites using white vinegar?
I always thought vinegar was merely to remove shine and to stop the suds in the last rinse water. Why do you soak your clothes overnight?

I'd use merely ';Tide'; and I buy it with the bleach already in it. Then I put ';snuggle'; softener sheets when I dry it in the dryer. But there is a water softener you can add to the last rinse when you wash your clothes to make them softer. How do you wash whites using white vinegar?
just use daz or ariel it is much easier that adding this and that to your washing!
There are some good fabric bleaches on the market. I use Vivid or Snowy for whites. I don't like the clothes to smell of vinegar so I would use baking soda to soften the water. The clorine based bleaches will destroy elastic so I don't use them.
I soak it if there are stains, otherwise I put a cup in the washing machine with the detergent. Also will add bicarb soda with tough stains.

Kids love to watch it fizz.

I know to preserve darker clothes, you add vinegar to the initial wash. Can this be done during the 2nd wash?

I think it actually works better to use it in the final rinse, as it acts as a softener plus removes soap residueI know to preserve darker clothes, you add vinegar to the initial wash. Can this be done during the 2nd wash?
Sure, I also turn my darker clothes inside out and wash on the cold/cold wash cycle with Woolite and I hang them to dry... Good luck

  • Need formula for mixing water & vinegar to wash windows?

I found one that says to make it 50% water and 50% vinegar. Another says 1/4-3/4 cup vinegar per quart of water. I'd go with the latter. Use newspaper to wipe the windows, instead of paper towels.Need formula for mixing water %26amp; vinegar to wash windows?
I have professionally tinted windows and the formula the manufacturer recommends is one part vinegar to 10 parts water. However, my window washer guy also adds a drop of regular dishwashing soap to that mixture. He swears it helps clean really dirty windows or those that are hit by the sprinklers every day and have hard water deposits.Need formula for mixing water %26amp; vinegar to wash windows?
    Window Cleaner

A quarter cup in a quart of water makes a good window cleaner. When

you use vinegar in your water to wash windows, dry with newspapers.

Your windows will sparkle! Keep a solution of 50/50 white vinegar and

water in a spray bottle to use for cleaning windows.
NEITHER, USE STRAIGHT RUBBING ALCOHOL IN A SPRAY BOTTLE ...YOU WILL NEVER USE VINEGAR AGAIN..
1part vinegar to 3 parts water should do the trick.
Amonia works better, and it's 2 cups amonia to 1 gallon water, but, the vinegar mixture, is 1/2 and 1/2.
Many different vinegar cleaning solutions have been used for dirty windows.

    1) Use a 50/50 white vinegar water solution for normal dirt.

    2) Another widely used vinegar formulation that is my favorite for cleaning windows, involves mixing white vinegar, water and rubbing alcohol(70%) as follows:

    * 2 cups Water (500 ml)

    * 1/2 cup Vinegar (125 ml)

    * 1/4 cup Rubbing Alcohol (60 ml)

Those who use it claim that it works just like expensive commercial products.
